Why BSEC?

Our model starts with the student’s needs and builds a plan for engagement around their interests and goals for themselves. Our teaching staff understands how to start where the students are and know when extra supports are needed to remove barriers to learning. Our cross-functional student services staff help students navigate around barriers and inform teachers how to best serve each student’s unique learning needs.

We believe that both well-being and learning are necessary components of a healthy student. We are committed to offering an inclusive and accessible educational space promoting education, healing and self-growth for all students.
Our programs provide:
  • Flexible programming to help students complete high school at their own pace.
  • Customized course planning according to student need
  • Decolonizing educational practices as part of our efforts to meet the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action for education.
  • Work experience program to support success in the workplace after school
  • Support for eligible students to access Alberta’s Learner’s Benefits program
  • In-house counselling for social-emotional support, connections to a Physician, yoga classes, therapeutic massage, trauma support animals, and much more!
